Spring is here, and it’s time to go fishing! Here’s a report on some good Chico area fishing waters.

Paradise Lake trout fishing is good using power bait or silver blue KastMasters up to a quarter ounce. Bass fishing will pick up this week using Senkos and large twin tails in watermelon and motor oil.

Orville Lake King salmon fishing is good at 45 to 60 feet depth using 6 to 9-inch green and silver flashers with white Hoochie. Don’t forget the small piece of anchovy on the Hoochie. Bass fishing is very good, using salt and pepper and brown Neds, 3 inch white swimbaits, and twin tail mops in brown colors.

Local Sacramento River stripers are biting OK with sardines, anchovies, and pile worms. Fishing will improve as the water clears.

Local small ponds can offer very good bass fishing using spinner baits, 5-inch twin tails, 6-inch curl tail worms, and watermelon Junebugs.

Lake Shasta trout fishing is very good when using quarter-ounce KastMasters, nightcrawlers, small Neds, crankbaits, and minnows. Bass fishing is also very good when using small black and silver crankbaits, Senkos, Ned rigs, and twin tails. Try cinnamon and purple, or flake and green pumpkin colors.

Lake Almanor offers very good trout fishing. They are chowing down on minnow-type lures in the rainbow and brown trout colors. Smallmouth bass fishing is also very good, using jerk baits, twin tail mops, and Neds in the brown colors.

The Delta is on fire for stripers. Try trolling deep divers with worm tails in chartreuse, red, and white pink or casting half-ounce to three-quarter-ounce swimbaits.

That pretty well sums up the local fishing. Don’t forget, if you need live bait, tackle, lures, or advice, be sure to stop by the Tackle Box Shop in Chico. It’s near the 99/Skyway overpass at 379 East Park Avenue and is open from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.
